BARBARA’S VISION AND PRIORITIES FOR LATHRUP VILLAGE
When we say we’re going home we’re not just referring to our house but also to our community. Home is where we go for love and support, for nourishment and comfort, and for peace and rest.
Lathrup Village has been my home for 62 years, a community that has always been a safe place to land. Of course every community has its share of antagonists. Sadly, this group has mushroomed over the past several years. It’s impossible to move a city forward when communication between council members ceases. When communication breaks down our home becomes fractured and unstable. When we circulate divisive, deceitful, and hateful rhetoric, we lose credibility and we become unproductive and untrustworthy. This, too, contributes to a fractured and unstable home.
Our home is in jeopardy, I say this with a heavy heart. We cannot maintain the status quo and expect to survive. We need a change in leadership and vision. My vision includes a community where everyone is heard and respected, where divisiveness and hate is not tolerated, and where common goals and objectives are pursued. It includes regular town halls, balanced budgets, a renewed and beautiful Southfield Corridor and, most importantly, a safe place to land.
I am not a politician, this is not my stepping stone to a career in politics. My only desire is to continue to serve you in Lathrup Village, our collective home.
